Public health nurses offer a variety of services to help parents watch the growth and development of their children. If there are health concerns about a child or questions about breastfeeding or nutrition issues, the nurses can check the child’s weight, height and head circumference. They can also make home visits to screen children for developmental progress and to give parents information about child development. If concerns are found during the screenings, the nurses can refer children to community resources for follow-up.
