Dive Team

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, is responsible for responding to criminal related incidents involving bodies of water.

The team is first and foremost utilized in its recovery capacity, which includes locating evidentiary items, removing the items, maintaining the evidence's integrity, and documentation for testimonial purposes.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office- Dive Team was established in 2005. The Dive Team is a fully mobile rapid deployment underwater SCUBA response team.

The team is made up of 7 sworn officers that are trained and certified as Public Safety SCUBA divers, and are dive rescue trained. The team has the capabilities of investigating underwater crime scenes, light salvage operations, vehicle recovery, submerged hazardous materials, underwater surveys, and search & recovery efforts.

The members are trained by a certified training facility in both recovery and rescue. Annual evaluations of each member’s performance ensure the appropriate level of training is maintained to meet Public Safety Diving’s industry standards.

The Brown County Dive Team trains monthly in all water conditions such as lakes, streams, rivers, ponds and canals throughout the Brown County and surrounding areas. Some of these waterways are also “black water” conditions, which refers to zero visibility.

The team has also worked with several local police agencies along with Federal agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard and State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The team is fully geared for cold water and ice diving operations, and currently implementing underwater communications with OTS Guardian-mask communications.

Each year the team is called upon to perform its mission in a successful and safe manner and is ready to respond in a rapid manner to a water emergency both above and below the water surface.
