Division Director
- Captain David Poteat

The Investigative Division is led by Captain David Poteat and consists of 18 sworn officers. Staff members include one Division Lieutenant, ten Sergeant Investigators, two Property/I.D. Sergeants, and four School Resource Officers. (The four School Resource Officers provide service to three local school districts within Brown County.)
The primary duties of this Division involves the investigation of criminal complaints, criminal activities, and the collection and preservation of evidence for the Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Poteat is also in charge of the Juvenile Unit and the Photo/ ID Unit.
