Division Director
-Captain John W. Rousseau

The Support Services Division is led by Captain John Rousseau. The division’s primary responsibility is to provide support to the men and women of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Circuit Court Judges operating out of the Brown County Courthouse. The division consists of one captain, one Lieutenant, three Sergeants, Courthouse Security Officers, Local Transport Officers, and Civil Process Officers.

Lieutenant Tim Bernklau is assigned to the Brown County Courthouse and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility. Assisted by the three Sergeants, Lieutenant Cuny’s duties include providing a secure environment for all Circuit Court Judges as well as the security of all men and women who frequent the facility. This includes Prosecuting Attorneys, Defense Attorneys, Public Defenders, Witnesses, Defendants, the Media, and all others who may attend court hearings and trials. Officers assigned to the Courthouse are also responsible for providing security for the Clerk of Courts office, which is located in the lower level of the courthouse. The division also transports parties from the jail to the courthouse complex for both Circuit as well as local Federal Court appearances.

As stated in State Statutes, the Support Services Captain is assigned by the Sheriff to manage all departmental criminal and traffic records as well as the service of all writs, precepts and orders which have been issued by lawful authorities. The Civil Process staff processes and serves hundreds of civil papers per year. They also oversee and conduct several hundred Sheriff Sales on foreclosed properties per year. The Records staff processes tens of thousands of citations, arrests and incidents in both paper and electronic format. The record’s staff also reports and transfers data to state and federal government entities. This data concerns and impacts driving records, accident reporting and uniform crime reporting.

In addition to these duties, the Support Services Captain oversees the department’s Records Management system as well as the other electronic data systems. Captain Deneys also serves as the liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and such agencies as the State Department of Justice, the county Public Safety Communications division, the county’s Information Services Department and the county’s Land Information Office.
