A Word from Melinda Pollen

Looking for a fun way to volunteer???

Brown County 4-H will have a hands on booth at the 2019 Einstein Expo, and is looking for volunteers. The Expo will be held at Shopko Hall on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9 am to 4 pm. We are partnering with Barnes and Noble, and our booth will be a hands on Novel Engineering Booth. What does that mean? We will introduce a story, and give the people who come through a challenge to solve a problem from the story. We are looking for four volunteers (middle school and older) to help us in the booth throughout the day. Our shifts are:

8 - 11 AM (4 Volunteers Needed)
11 AM - 2 PM (4 Volunteers Needed)
2 - 5 PM (2 Volunteers Needed)

The event runs from 9 am to 4 pm, but we included a bit of start/set up and clean up time. If you volunteer for the event, you will get a pass to get into the event (that means either before or after your scheduled shift, you can walk through and participate in the entire event!).

If you are interested, please sign up for a shift here. Shifts will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Parents and youth are encouraged to volunteer together!

Any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Creative Arts Committee Highlights

The Creative Arts Committee will be publishing helpful tips highlighting each of our 4 divisions over the next several weeks.

This week we are highlighting – MUSIC AND MOVEMENT.

There are so many ways to participate in this division! The four Music and Movement categories are:

Instrumental
Vocal
Novelty
Dance

Do you have an instrumental or vocal Solo and Ensemble piece that you’ve been working on? Here’s your chance to show off your hard work and get even more stage experience! Sign up to sing your favorite song to sing in the shower or with your friends or the great piano piece you’ve been learning in your piano lessons.

Are you in dance class and want to show what you’ve learned? This is a great chance to get on stage and let others see what you’ve learned.

These performances can be on your own or with a friend or two or twenty! There is no limit to the size of your group for these categories.

Parents: this is a great way for your talented, creative artists to gain confidence in themselves! Learning how to perform, singing with and in front of others, dancing on their own or as part of a group – all of these things help kids build a sense of purpose, camaraderie, confidence, and self esteem.

ArtBEAT!
REGISTRATION DEADLINE JANUARY 31, 2019

Can you hear the BEAT? What BEAT? ArtBEAT! What BEAT? ArtBEAT! It is time to start thinking about and planning to participate in our 2019 WI 4-H ArtBEAT!

4-H ArtBEAT! was created for 4-H members in grades 3-5 and their parents and leaders and is the introductory program for Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication! ArtBEAT! will be held March 15 through 17, 2019, at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells. The weekend will feature a look at a variety of arts projects including music, drama, visual arts, and more! Camp check-in begins Friday, March 15 at 6:30 pm and runs through Sunday, March 17 at 11:00 am.

4-H members will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity while discovering a variety of 4-H Arts & Communication experiences available to them now and in the near future. Session leaders will be 4-H older youth, adult leaders and 4-H staff members with a wealth of experience to share. Youth and adult participants will rotate through a variety of sessions, which are hands-on and active and held at various sites throughout camp. Along with exploring the “arts,” participants will also have a chance to discover Upham Woods! Both youth and adult participants stay in the warm and cozy heated cabins!

Parents are not required to attend, but are invited. All adults attending the camp must be active 4-H leaders who will be considered adult advisors (chaperones) responsible for providing leadership and support for ALL campers. As such, all adults who want to attend the camp must complete the requirements to become a 4-H leader before camp and participate in an Adult Advisor Orientation Teleconference on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. Interested adults who are not already active 4-H volunteers should contact their county UW-Extension 4-H Office as soon as possible for assistance in completing the process to become a volunteer. The process involves VIP Training and a background check.

The $100.00 per person fee (youth and adults) will include all materials and supplies (including a very cool ArtBEAT! backpack), overnight lodging, meals and snacks.

Why not get a whole carload of youth and adults together from your county for some genuine 4-H FUN? Transportation to the camp is NOT provided by the State 4-H Office.

Come join the excitement of this opportunity available to our most enthusiastic and creative 4-H members!

REGISTER EARLY! This camp fills up fast and registration is first come, first serve! Registration will open in 4H Online on December 20, 2018 and will close on January 31, 2019. Friendly Fields 4-H December Meeting

On December 9, 2018, Friendly Fields 4-H Club met for their December meeting and made Christmas cards for Oddfellow Rehab and Nursing Home. This was a fun service project that everyone could help with. Along with making cards, we played a fun snack mix activity to help everyone learn how to make a motion. Club members all took turns making motions to add or exclude items from the snack mix. Everyone had lots of fun learning or reviewing how to make a motion. The snack mix was yummy too!

Photos to be included in next week's newsletter!

Lost Dauphin 4-H December Meeting
