In December 2008, Brown County became an Energy Independence Pilot Community in partnership with the Oneida Tribe of Indians and we launched our Energy Oversight Committee.
In 2009, a plan was developed that supported the Governor's 25x25 initiative to generate 25% of Wisconsin's electricity and transportation fuel from renewable resources by 2025 for energy independence and implement our ideas for saving energy.
The Brown County Energy Oversight Committee was charged with five imperatives:
Look into different areas where we can reduce our carbon footprint as an organization.
Research alternative energy sources.
Explore areas where we can reduce our energy consumption.
Investigate alternative fuel and fuel-efficient vehicles
Determine how we can become a leader in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Since completing the 25 x 25 Plan for Energy Independence in 2009, the Brown County Energy Oversight Committee has identified many energy-related projects and has been very successful initiating and pushing projects through to completion.
