BROWN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE OFFICIAL REPORTS

OBTAINING A COPY OF A RECORD OR REPORT

Brown County Sheriff’s Office Records are available for public release under Federal and Wisconsin Open Records laws.

The Sheriff’s Office will be transparent in its release of information.

Some types of records may not be able to be released because of such things as the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act” (HIPAA), “Drivers Privacy and Protection Act” (DPPA), and/or the fact that the incident is still under investigation.

Please follow the below procedures to make your request.

TRAFFIC CRASH / ACCIDENT REPORTS:

The Sheriff’s Office distributes an information sheet at crash/accident scenes to assist in retrieving the crash/accident report. Use the number written on that sheet to obtain a copy of the report. Most reports will be available 3-5 business days after the incident was reported.

You may obtain a copy of the report in one of these ways:
  1. Follow the below link to the Sheriff’s Office website and enter the driver information or the incident number from the sheet provided at the time of the incident. Click Here for Traffic Crashes
  2. If you cannot access the website follow one of the five procedures listed below.

If you do not know the Incident number knowing the date of the crash/incident, the location, the parties’ names, and the nature of the police call will help find the incident. Please provide as many of these items as you can.
