 In Wisconsin, over 1.1 million people have been diagnosed with arthritis. The pain and stiffness associated with the disease can sometimes deter people from continuing activities that they enjoy such as gardening. The information presented will provide tips, tools and techniques to allow gardening to remain an enjoyable, lifelong activity.

- Arthritis Research Project
Arthritis can create limitations and prevent people from living the life they want to live. Brown County UW-Extension, in conjunction with the Wisconsin Arthritis Program and the Centers for Disease Control, is leading a research project to examine gardening’s ability to reduce these limitations. Participants in this project will have the opportunity to learn new techniques that will reduce stress on joints, improve body mechanics, and have the opportunity to test several gardening tools.

- The Wisconsin Arthritis Program
The Wisconsin Arthritis Program partners with the Arthritis Foundation-Wisconsin Chapter, the Milwaukee Area Health Education Center, and a variety of other institutions and community organizations to focus on primary and secondary prevention of arthritis. The program's three main strategies are:
Surveillance, epidemiology and evaluation
Public awareness and communication
Programs, policies and systems approaches.
