The Brown County Drug Task Force is a full-time investigative unit assigned to investigate narcotics trafficking in the Brown County area. The Brown County Drug Task Force works frequently with drug task forces throughout the state as well as state and federal law enforcement to deal with drug trafficking that affects Brown County. The unit is comprised of the following:

  • Three secretaries from the Brown County Sheriff's Office
  • There are four assistant district attorneys assigned to prosecute drug cases in Brown County.

The Brown County Drug Task Force is governed by a Board of Directors which meets quarterly, and is chaired by Sheriff John Gossage. Members of this board include:

Chief Tom Molitor; Green Bay Police Department

In 2010, Brown County was designated by Congress as HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) county and is augmented by a special agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration. This group operates as the Northeastern Drug Task Force initiative of the Wisconsin HIDTA and focuses on identifying, disrupting and dismantling Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTOs).

In addition to conducting DTO investigations, the unit conducts street level to mid-level drug investigations, interdiction operations and follows up on citizen tips. The Drug Task Force provides training for local law enforcement, fire departments, paramedics, hospital emergency room staff, social workers and teachers. They are also frequently requested to speak at Neighborhood Watch meetings and area schools. The Drug Task Force works closely with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Wisconsin Department Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation, as well as other task forces and law enforcement officers throughout the state. The Drug Task Force works closely with Green Bay Community Policing Officers and the county’s Directed Enforcement Officers in the Villages of Allouez, Bellevue, Howard and Suamico, to address the numerous drug tips received annually.

In 2013, the Drug Task Force received 810 tips and made 659 arrests. Arrests have increased 96% compared to arrests in 2008. The Task Force is presently focusing on addressing the growing narcotic problem (heroin and prescription narcotics) as well as an emerging methamphetamine problem while still conducting enforcement actions for cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs prevalent in the area.
