Brown County's vital statistics are filed by the Register of Deeds to include all births, deaths, and marriages. During 2008, 54,697 births, 2,129 deaths, and 1,548 marriages were filed. The vital statistics section also files and records military discharge records for veterans. During 2008, 222 veterans filed discharge records.
The Brown County Register of Deeds Office has birth, death and marriage records for events that occurred in Brown County. In the case of births and deaths if a Brown County resident dies or has a child in another Wisconsin County that record will also be filed here.
All requests for copies are processed the same day they are received and are mailed to the requestor the same day or the following business day. Requestors usually receive their copies one to three days following receipt of request.
Access to the genealogy research area is on a first come, first serve basis. All researchers must complete an "Application for Records Search" and present acceptable identification prior to entering the research area.
New: effective August 1, 2009 Domestic Partnership Agreements will also be filed in the Register of Deeds Office.
